FESTUS, Mo. — A man is facing charges after police said he threatened to kill a man and the man's 4-year-old son before the father pulled out a gun and scared him off Saturday.

Matthew Wilson, 34, was charged with four counts of assault and two other crimes in connection with the incident.

Festus police said they were called to a home on Delmar Street Saturday for a report of a man threatening multiple people, including a 4-year-old boy.

One of the victims told police Wilson was riding a bike back an forth in front of the man's house while the man was loading his son into his car. He said Wilson then put a backpack down and started yelling at the man and boy. While the man was still holding his son, Wilson threatened to kill them both.

The man told Wilson that he must have him confused with someone else, but Wilson continued to threaten the man.

During the incident, two neighbors came out of their houses to see what was going on, and Wilson threatened to kill them as well.

Charging documents said Wilson then pulled a knife from the backpack and started moving toward the father and his son. The father then pulled out his concealed handgun and scared Wilson off.

Police said Wilson dropped the knife and ran off, but was arrested a short time later.

He was charged with three counts of second-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault of a special victim, one count of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of armed criminal action.

He is being held at the Jefferson County Jail. His bond was set at $500,000.
