BRENTWOOD, Mo. — A child was found safe after they were in the back seat of a car that was stolen from a gas station in Brentwood Thursday morning, police say. Officers are now looking for the man who stole the car.

Major Angela Hawkins with the Brentwood Police Department said the car was stolen from the gas station at the 2100 block of South Brentwood Boulevard at about 4 a.m. The 2-year-old child was found safe about 30 minutes later at the corner of University and Crandon drives in Clayton.

The department said the car, a blue Chevrolet Equinox, was later found outside of a Super 8 Motel in Pevely, Missouri, but the suspect is still on the run.

Police said the man they think stole the car was captured by security cameras. The department said he is believed to be a man in his 20s with dark hair. He was wearing a green sweatshirt, dark pants and tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call the Brentwood Police Department at 314-645-3000.
