ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — St. Louis County lawmakers on Tuesday allocated $40 million in Rams settlement money for subdivision paving projects.
The move represents the first from the county of the city of St. Louis to spend the money, received from the settlement of litigation over the National Football League team's move to Los Angeles in 2016. The county got $169 million, the city $250 million, the entity that owns the Dome at America's Center $70 million, and $30 million went to an expansion of America's Center. Plaintiff lawyers got $277.4 million. The Dome owner, the Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority, has spent some of its money.
The county legislation, from county council members Shalonda Webb and Mark Harder, says it's to go to the Department of Transportation and Public Works for subdivision slab replacement and sidewalk and curb maintenance in unincorporated areas of the county. It says the council would approve each project; County Executive Sam Page said that's not how the department's process works.
One council member, Lisa Clancy, voted no.
The county lists subdivision roads most in need of paving.
The council on Tuesday also appropriated $300,000 for the implementation of the government's senior property tax freeze.
