North St. Louis crash leaves woman dead, another injured Monday night

Police said a witness dropped the victims off near St. Louis City Hall, where medics were responding to another incident.

ST. LOUIS — A woman died and another was critically injured in a car crash Monday night in north St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the crash happened just after 10 p.m. Monday at North Broadway and Campbell Avenue, located at the edge of Bellefontaine Cemetery. 

A preliminary investigation revealed a 22-year-old woman was driving southbound on North Broadway when she lost control of her vehicle "for unknown reasons." Then, the car struck a light pole, a building, a stop sign and a fire hydrant before coming to a rest at the corner of North Broadway and Campbell Avenue.

Police said a witness who was taking driver and a passenger to the hospital when he saw medics responding to another incident at the intersection of South Tucker Boulevard and Market Street, near St. Louis City Hall, and dropped them off.

The driver and passenger were taken to an area hospital via ambulance. At the hospital, the passenger, 20-year-old Aeril Richard of Spanish Lake, was pronounced dead and the driver was listed in critical condition.

Accident Reconstruction was requested.
