Greater St. Louis Marathon runners set to pass iconic landmarks during race

The race starts at 7 a.m. A free afterparty called 'MOTION' will be curated by St. Louis' own Mvstermind.

ST. LOUIS — Runners for the Greater St. Louis Marathon will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday and last 26.2 miles. The race will begin and end along Market Street in the downtown West neighborhood of St. Louis. 

The location is a change from last year and runners will go past many iconic landmarks and areas. 

Runners are expected to head toward the Gateway Arch as the sun rises. They'll run across the Mississippi River to East St. Louis and back. Then go through old North St. Louis, Midtown, and as far as the Central West End. 

Runners will pass by Anheuser-Busch, all our universities downtown, and two parks including St. Louis Place Park and Lafayette Park. Runners will end their race at Union Station. To view the full race map click here, for street closures click here

For the first time, there will be a free afterparty "MOTION" Curated by Muhammad "Mvstermind" Austin. A local hip-hop artist and community leader in St. Louis. The after-party will bring together other local music artists including Whitworth, StarwolfStazi and more. On 15th street between Market Street and Chestnut Street. With the first act taking the stage at 11 a.m., the last act will conclude at 6 p.m.

Things to know about the race:

  • There is a time limit of 6.5 hours for the marathon and runners must maintain a pace of 15 minutes per mile to stay ahead of the closure.
  • There will be water and Gatorade stations along the course, medical stations, massage stations, and St. Louis-themed food at the finish line.
  • Parking is available at Union Station and there are several street parking options on Clark Avenue, Olive Street, and Locust Street. 
  •  In the event of an impending weather situation race officials will decide to delay or postpone the event. 

There will also be a half marathon, 10k, and a family fun run.
