Woman shot, critically injured Wednesday morning in Dutchtown neighborhood

The woman told police a man wearing a ski mask broke out the front window of her apartment, demanded money and then shot her as she ran from the room.

Police investigating a shooting on the 4600 block of South Spring Avenue in the Dutchtown neighborhood Wednesday morning.

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police are investigating after a 55-year-old woman was found shot Wednesday morning in the city's Dutchtown neighborhood.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 4600 block of South Spring Avenue for a report of a shooting. Responding officers found a woman who had been shot.

An ambulance rushed her to the hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

Police said in an afternoon update that the woman told them a man wearing a ski mask broke out the front window of her apartment and demanded money. As she ran from the living room, he shot at her, striking her in the pelvic area.

The man then ran off in an unknown direction, police said.

Photos from the scene at about 8:50 a.m. showed police tape blocking off an apartment building while officers investigated.

Police have not said what may have led up to the shooting.
