Person pulled from fire in St. Louis apartment building, taken to hospital in serious condition

Firefighters found the person on the second floor and carried them outside to safety.

St. Louis Fire Department responding to a fire at Hyde Park apartment building Tuesday afternoon.

ST. LOUIS — Firefighters with the St. Louis Fire Department rescued a person from an apartment building fire Tuesday afternoon in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood. Paramedics transported the person to an area hospital in serious condition. 

The department said it received a report regarding a fire with heavy smoke at a three-story brick building around 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 3600 block of North 19th Street in north St. Louis' Hyde Park neighborhood. There was also a report of someone trapped inside. 

When responding emergency personnel with the department arrived at the scene, they started extinguishing the fire and searching for people inside. One person was found on the second floor and was carried outside to safety. 

Paramedics immediately transported that person to an area hospital in serious condition, firefighters said. 

The fire was successfully extinguished. 

The building was fully evacuated and there were no other reported injuries as a result of the fire. 

As of Tuesday evening, there was no further information regarding the condition of the person who was rescued.
