Creve Coeur catholic school to close after the school year

The Archdiocese of St. Louis plans to provide placement assistance to the school's faculty, staff and families.

CREVE COEUR, Mo. — A Creve Coeur, Missouri, catholic school will close following the end of the 2023-2024 academic year due to declining enrollment, the Archdiocese of St. Louis said.

After more than 100 years, St. Monica Catholic School will close its doors. The church will remain open.

According to a press release, the school has faced ongoing challenges due to inconsistent and declining enrollment. It has fewer than 120 students enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year, with one grade level having only three students, according to the release.

"'This trend means that continuing to provide quality education at St. Monica School would require support that would negatively impact the parish’s finances and impede other crucial parish ministries," according to the release.

The Archdiocese of St. Louis plans to provide placement assistance to the school's faculty, staff and families.

"The parishioners of St. Monica can indeed be proud of the long history of educating children in the faith," according to the release. "I am profoundly grateful to them, to all the administrators, teachers, and staff who share their gifts to help raise children in our Catholic faith and to the parents who make a commitment to Catholic education."

Two other parish elementary schools will close following the school year.

In March, the Archdiocese of St. Louis announced Little Flower School in Richmond Heights and St. Roch School in St. Louis would close.

Enrollment had declined and both schools faced staffing issues.
