ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis City brawl broke out Saturday for unknown reasons.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a call for a shooting at Goodfellow and Dr. Martin Luther King boulevards around 5 p.m. Saturday, but when officers arrived, they discovered that there was no shooting, according to a brief report from police.

Police said they observed a disturbance involving a large group of people at the scene.

As officers tried to disband the crowd, several fights broke out, prompting police dispatch to send out a city-wide officer-in-need-of-aid call.

Seven men involved in the fights were arrested, police said. An officer used a taser to subdue one man who was later arrested.

An officer on the scene was taken to an area hospital after being hit in the head. The officer was complaining of pain and dizziness. Another officer was treated on the scene for a leg injury.

Police did not share why the fighting began or why the call was made for a shooting.

It is unclear how many officers responded to the call for aid.

This is an ongoing investigation. Check KSDK.com for updates.
