Man shot in the chest, killed Tuesday night near SLU campus

St. Louis police said the shooting happened just before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

ST. LOUIS — A man was shot and killed Tuesday night near Saint Louis University's campus in St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the shooting just before 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Coronado Apartments, 3701 Lindell Blvd.

Several students live in the apartments, but the complex is not affiliated with the university.

Responding officers found a man in his 20s who was shot in the chest. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In an alert posted to X, the SLU Department of Public Safety asked students to avoid the area near North Spring Avenue and Lindell Boulevard due to a heavy police presence.

The circumstances that led up to the shooting remained unclear.
