ST. LOUIS — A south St. Louis bar sustained major damage in a fire Friday afternoon.

The fire broke out at about 1:30 p.m. at Stella Blues Restaurant and Bar in the 3600 block of Morgan Ford Road, said St. Louis Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Garon Mosby.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke when they arrived at the scene. The fire spread through the building's ductwork to the second floor, which is residential, Mosby said.

Mosby said it initially appeared the fire started in the kitchen, but later said it started in the back of the building.

The restaurant was open at the time. It's unclear how many people were inside.

 No injuries were reported.

A GoFundMe campaign to help the restaurant restock supplies lost in the fire and repair damage to the building hoped to raise $75,000. A message on the site said the money would also be used to help provide financial support to employees.

As of Saturday afternoon, the campaign had raised just over $2,500.
