ST. LOUIS — Garden Variety Deli, a new breakfast and lunch eatery, is set to open in the city’s Tower Grove South neighborhood, likely by late spring or early summer, its owners said.

Travis Howard, the local restaurateur behind Retreat Gastropub, Yellowbelly and Lazy Tiger, last year was looking to purchase an investment property and ultimately found one, at 3131 Morganford Road, with three apartments and a first-floor retail space.

Jack McGinn, a longtime employee who previously served as Retreat’s general manager, will grow most of Garden Variety Deli’s ingredients in his home garden. The restaurant’s other foods will be sourced from local vendors, he said.

Its breakfast offerings will likely include one variety of breakfast sandwich or burrito, in addition to frittata and pastries. For lunch, the restaurant will offer a variety of sandwiches, salads and sides. The deli will partner with Central West End coffeehouse Quarrelsome Coffee for its coffee offerings.
