ST. LOUIS — Ben Poremba will officially open Esca, which he bills as a “coastal Mediterranean grill and bar,” on March 26.

The opening marks the first of five restaurant concepts that Poremba plans to open this year in the Delmar Maker District, located along Delmar Boulevard between North Kingshighway and Union boulevards.

Esca, at 5095 Delmar Blvd., features a menu inspired by a variety of Mediterranean cuisines, including, perhaps most notably, foods from the French and Italian rivieras.

“Over there,” Poremba said, “they do what’s called ‘The Cuisine of the Sun’ — lots of olive oil, lots of vegetables, and things are prepared very simply and mostly grilled.”

The restaurant doesn’t have any traditional cooking surfaces, opting instead for a charcoal grill positioned in the center of the space.

In addition to its Mediterranean-inspired appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts, Esca will offer an extensive collection of cocktails and a robust wine list.
