ST. LOUIS — For more than a century, Americans have been enjoying Blue Bell ice cream, but sadly it's only been available in 23 states.
That changed on Monday.
The Texas-based creamery expanded its business to include the St. Louis region starting Monday. The company built a distribution facility the size of a hockey rink in St. Peters and will have a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the new facility on Wednesday.
Blue Bell said you'll be able to find their products at "most retailers" and said you can use their store finder tool online.
Residents in central Missouri and southern Illinois can also expect to see the southern ice cream brand.
To celebrate the expansion, Blue Bell is releasing a familiar taste for the St. Louis Market, gooey butter cake.
“Today is a special day for Blue Bell,” Breed said. “We are excited to bring our new Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream and all of our delicious products to St. Louis and the surrounding cities.”
Blue Bell Creameries Sales and Marketing Vice President Jimmy Lawhorn said St. Louisans have asked the company to make the frozen dessert available there.
“Consumers have contacted us through letters, phone calls, email, and social media asking when Blue Bell will be available in St. Louis,” Lawhorn said. “We are happy to say Blue Bell is on the way! We will offer our full product lineup. More information will be shared as we get closer to the opening date.”
Blue Bell only distributes ice cream using its own employees, so the expansion will bring jobs to the St. Louis region.
Blue Bell will have free samples available at a number of local grocery stores over the next few weeks to let St. Louisans get a free taste. To find a location near you, see the full list below, or click here.
