ST. LOUIS — The owners of a chocolate factory on The Hill will expand their existing production space and open a chocolate café, after earlier this month acquiring a nearby building.

The Abel family, owners of Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Co. and Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier, around the end of 2022 began realizing that space limitations were negatively affecting operations in their 30,000-square-foot main production facility, located at 5025 Pattison Ave., said Chief Chocolate Officer Dan Abel Jr.

Over the coming months, the Abel family plans to renovate, build out an expansion and connect the recently acquired building it to its existing facility, thereby creating a more-than 60,000-square-foot main production facility. The family additionally owns a 25,000-square-foot distribution center at 5130 Northrup Ave., two doors down from its production facility, which it acquired in 2018, Abel Jr. said.

In addition to production spaces, the expansion is set to bring tourism back to the chocolate factory.
