A Starbucks coffee shop once occupied this prominent corner in Clayton, but closed in 2021.

CLAYTON, Mo. — There's a plan to reopen a closed Starbucks at a high-profile Clayton corner, the property's landlord said.

The Starbucks at Hanley Road and Wydown Boulevard, a corporate-owned store that closed in 2021, could soon reopen as a franchised Starbucks, said the landlord, Doug Holtzman of commercial real estate development firm STLCRE.

The coffee shop site, currently vacant, is still under lease to Starbucks, which chose to close the store, Holtzman said. The coffee chain has an interest in buying out the lease to make way for the new franchise to operate.

If all goes as planned, Starbucks could reopen at the site as soon as summer or fall this year, Holtzman said.

Since the site had previously operated as a Starbucks, Holtzman said the zoning would already be in place, and he expects the approval process would go smoothly. He also believes the neighborhood would welcome back the coffee shop.
