Dog dies after fire at south St. Louis home

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

ST. LOUIS — Firefighters extinguished a south St. Louis house fire that left a dog dead Wednesday.

Just before 7:30 a.m., the St. Louis Fire Department was called to the 600 block of Wilmington Avenue in the Holly Hills neighborhood for a report of a fire. After the crew put out the fire at the one-story home, officials said one person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and a dog died.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
