Fire destroys home, damages another Wednesday in St. Charles

The fire broke out shortly after midnight on Expedition Trail Court.

ST CHARLES, Mo. — Fire damaged two homes early Wednesday morning in St. Charles.

The flames broke out on Expedition Trail Court.

St. Charles Fire Department officials said residents were able to get out safely and no one was injured. The fire destroyed the roof of one home and spread to the home next door, causing significant damage.

Fire officials told 5 On Your Side that the owner of the home where the fire started woke up, noticed the fire and smoke, got the family out and called the fire department. Next door, we’re told a child in the family woke up, and everybody evacuated.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the initial house fire.

Battalion Chief Kevin Longinette said fall fires like this one call attention to the importance of smoke detectors.

“Really, what we want to do is express the importance of making sure your home has working smoke detectors, inside,” Longinette said. “When fires do occur overnight in a dwelling when you’re sleeping, it’s imperative that you have working smoke detectors.”
