FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. — A man died in custody Saturday morning inside a holding cell at the Franklin County Adult Detention Center.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Donald Stickler, 31, of Lonedell.

Stickler had been determined fit for confinement and was transferred to the jail on Thursday, the sheriff's office said. At about 6:20 Saturday,  a detention officer and nurse staff entered the cell to dispense medicine and found Stickler unresponsive.

A nurse tended to Stickler until paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead. The sheriff's office said there was no obvious sign of death.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was called to the scene and is handling the investigation.
