37-year-old found dead in north St. Louis County conservation area identified

Police are now investigating whether it could be related to a body found that same day in St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Friday, police identified the man found fatally shot Tuesday afternoon on the side of a road in the Columbia Bottom Conservation area.

The St. Louis County Police Department said officers responded shortly after 2 p.m. regarding a suspicious death on the 12600 block of Columbia Bottom Road. They arrived to find 37-year-old Carlos Strickland dead in a grassy area off the roadway.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are now investigating whether it could be related to a body found that same day in St. Louis.

According to authorities, there was no obvious cause of death, but they discovered Wednesday that the victim had been fatally shot after an autopsy.

A St. Louis County police spokesperson said the grassy area surrounding his body had been burned. Police are investigating whether the man's death could be connected to a body found burned in an alley early Tuesday morning in south St. Louis.

Both deaths are being considered homicides.

An investigation is ongoing.
