ST. LOUIS — Eight brands are coming together to offer money for shoppers who had to pay the so-called 'tampon tax,' which includes Missouri shoppers.

Eight brands are participating in the "Tampon Tax Back Coalition" reimbursement program, which will pay the sales taxes on any period products bought in the 21 states that still tax them. Missouri is included in that group but Illinois is not.

The companies say the program is an effort to highlight that the products are not classified as "essential," meaning they are not tax-exempt. There is no additional tax on tampons or other menstruation products, but women's health advocates say that charging sales tax on the products is an unfair burden on women.

The participating companies are August, Cora, DIVA, Here We Flo, The Honey Pot, LOLA, Saalt, Rael.

The group says they will send you your reimbursement through PayPal or Venmo.
