Fatal crash on I-70 at Grand Boulevard leaves 1 dead Sunday

All three vehicles caught fire after the impacts and were completely burned.

ST. LOUIS — Westbound Interstate 70 was closed for several hours at Grand Boulevard while St. Louis police investigated a fatal crash. 

The crash involved at least three vehicles and happened shortly before 4:30 Sunday morning. 

Police said a Chevrolet Silverado was stopped in the left lane of I-70 at Grand Boulevard with its lights off. It was then hit by a GMC Yukon Denali which was then hit by a GMC Yukon. 

All three vehicles caught fire after the impacts and were completely burned. 

The driver of the stopped Silverado was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. 

The man driving the Yukon Denali and his passenger, and the woman driving the Yukon were all taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. 

Police said they all were listed with stable vital signs. 

The identity of the man who died was not released. 

Accident Reconstruction is handling the crash investigation. 

Traffic on westbound I-70 was diverted off the interstate around the crash while the interstate was closed.

No additional information was released.
