Millions of Americans are hurtling along the nation's jumble of transportation arteries for Thanksgiving, and more of them are discovering that a bus, of all things, is the cheapest, comfiest and coolest way to stay Zen during the nation's largest annual human migration. ST. LOUIS — Looking for a cheap ride out of town? Megabus is partnering with Burlington Trailways to expand its daily trips in and out of St. Louis starting later this month.

The low-cost, double-decker bus transportation service offers affordable city-to-city travel across North America, with some bus fares as low as $1, according to the Megabus website. Since its founding in 2006, the company has served more than 50 million customers in more than 280 cities.

Megabus announced Tuesday it will be expanding its service to include daily trips between St. Louis and the following cities:

  • Troy, Missouri
  • Bowling Green, Missouri
  • Hannibal, Missouri
  • Quincy, Illinois
  • Canton, Missouri
  • Keokuk, Iowa
  • Fort Madison, Iowa
  • Burlington, Iowa
  • Mount Pleasant, Iowa
  • Iowa City, Iowa
  • Cedar Rapids, Iowa

The expanded service is possible because of a partnership with Burlington Trailways, a privately owned motor coach company. According to its website, the Iowa-based transportation service offers scheduled intercity passenger and express service, chartered bus service and all-inclusive escorted tours. The company also serves as a full-service travel agency.

The partnership also brings expanded service between Chicago and 12 cities, Denver and 22 cities, Des Moines and 33 cities, Iowa City and 20 cities as well as Indianapolis and 22 cities.

Expanded travel schedules to and from St. Louis are available now, and tickets for the new daily routes will go on sale starting March 27 on the Megabus website.
