O'FALLON, Ill — A man was charged in connection to shots fired in an O’Fallon, Illinois neighborhood in early January. Surveillance video was used in the investigation.

According to an O’Fallon Police Department post on Facebook, during the early morning hours of Jan. 6., officers responded to a number of calls regarding shots fired in the Schwarz Meadow and Deer Creek area.

Police said they found several spent shell casings, but no immediate damage or injuries.

Several nearby homes allowed police access to their surveillance systems. The surveillance video led to a car description, a view of the shots being fired, and a location where the car was prior to leaving the area.

Police also said follow-up by citizens and officers led the investigation to a nearby area where the suspect Michael C. Williams, 34, was found in a dark gray 2007 Dodge Charger.

Police said Williams was found to be in possession of a suspected controlled substance and a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine. Williams was arrested.

On Jan. 15, the case was presented to the St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office which issued the charges that included armed violence, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance.

The Illinois Department of Corrections also issued a no-bond parole violation warrant because Williams was currently on parole.

Police said Williams was not targeting any specific person or home.

Williams' bond was set at $50,000 and he is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail.
