CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — Chabad of Chesterfield, an organization that serves as one of several local hubs for the Jewish community, will break ground Wednesday on a new center.

The 15,000-square-foot building, to be built at 15310 Conway Road in Chesterfield, is a $5 million project to be funded by local donors. The organization, co-directed by Chana'la Rubenfeld and her husband, Rabbi Avi Rubenfeld, is running a capital campaign to fund the project.

Conway Construction and Gray Design are the general contractor and architect, respectively, for the project. The new center will include a library, Judaica shop, café, learning center, social hall and meeting spaces, among other features.

Chabad of Chesterfield expects to open the new center in summer 2023.

The organization, which currently operates from leased space at Chesterfield Mall, was founded 17 years ago. It offers education, holiday celebrations and youth programs, among other services.

Chabad of Chesterfield serves the Chesterfield, Ballwin and Wildwood areas. It is one of five affiliates of the Chabad of Greater St. Louis, the regional headquarters of the Chabad Lubavitch movement that's dedicated to promoting the welfare of Jewish people worldwide.

Chabad of Chesterfield acquired the property in August 2021 for $735,000 from SMS Group LLC, according to county and state records.
