Man shot in chest in St. Louis' Downtown West neighborhood

ST. LOUIS — A man was shot in the chest early Monday morning in St. Louis.

The man was shot at about 3:15 a.m. in the area of Washington Avenue and North 18th Street in St. Louis' Downtown West neighborhood. 

The man was transported to a local hospital, police said. His condition was later updated to "death imminent," according to police. 

St. Louis police's homicide division is investigating the shooting. 

The man's name and age have not been released.
