Amber Alert canceled after 2-year-old girl found safe

Police said the 2-year-old girl was left unattended in a car. She was found safe a few hours later.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — An Amber Alert has been canceled after a 2-year-old girl who had been reported missing was found safe Wednesday morning.

Officials said the girl was left unattended in a car around 2:45 am in the parking lot of a senior living facility in the 3300 block of Dunn Road. While the girl was still inside, the vehicle was stolen by an unknown suspect.

At around 6 a.m., St. Louis County police said the girl was found safe and was reunited with her mother. The stolen car was towed away by police near the corner of Vitadale Court and Woodwind Drive in Ferguson.

As of 6:30 a.m., police said there is no suspect in custody.

5 On Your Side spoke with the uncle of the 2-year-old child and a longtime family friend.

The two were present at the police scene at Dunn Road Manor throughout the morning while the search was conducted.

After the girl was found, the two men told 5 On Your Side they believe the child slept through the whole ordeal. They said she gave them a hug when she saw them after being recovered.

The child’s uncle thanked the community for prayers and said it’s a blessing his niece is safe.
