Police investigating after man found dead in SUV near Forest Park Monday

A preliminary investigation revealed no evidence of defense wounds or a struggle. Police are now calling it a suspicious death that is possibly a suicide.

ST. LOUIS — Police are investigating after a man was found dead with his throat cut near Forest Park Monday afternoon.

The death was being investigated as a homicide, but police are now calling it a suspicious death that is possibly a suicide.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said a 58-year-old man was found inside an SUV in an alley on the 6200 block of Southwood Avenue at around 4:35 p.m. He was unconscious and not breathing when the officers arrived. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Homicide investigators and the medical examiner responded.

According to new details released Tuesday, police found a deep cut on his left wrist and on his throat. A preliminary investigation revealed no evidence of defense wounds or a struggle, and the incident is now being handled at the district level.

Some women who live in the area shared their reactions Monday after hearing what happened.

"We're back there all the time, our dumpsters are back there, I'm out there at 10 p.m. I've never been concerned before so this is scary," Margaret Sullivan said.

"There was a ton of cops, tons of noise, which is very unusual and yeah honestly pretty alarming," Mara Hockerman said.

"It's spooky. It's spooky, but also we live in a city, so, you just have to be on guard and I'm hoping this was just a weird crime of passion and not something more intense," Madeleine Fleming said.
