Woman shot by boyfriend after getting into crash on I-70 exit ramp, police say

The shooting victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. The suspect was arrested at the scene

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Mo. — A woman was hospitalized after police said her boyfriend shot her after they got into a crash on an Interstate 70 exit ramp in Missouri Tuesday night.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded at 7:30 p.m. to a report of a shooting on the I-70 west exit ramp in Danville, Missouri, which is about halfway between St. Louis and Columbia. They arrived to find a victim with severe injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. At last check, her vitals were stable, the sheriff’s office said.

A suspect was arrested at the scene and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Police said he was the boyfriend of the shooting victim and shot her after they were involved in a crash.

On Wednesday night, the sheriff's department identified the suspected shooter as identified as Kenneth C. McKnight II. He was charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of armed criminal action.

Police say the victim is expected to make a full recovery.

The Missouri State Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) is assisting in the investigation.
