Storm Alert: Winter weather advisory issued for St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS — Rain showers, drizzle and mist will begin mixing with snow Tuesday evening. During the evening and overnight, the wintry mix will change over to snow showers.

The National Weather Service has expanded the winter weather advisory to the southeast, which now includes the St. Louis metro area and southern counties. The St. Louis metro will likely be impacted during the Wednesday morning rush hour.

The advisory begins 6 p.m. Tuesday through noon on Wednesday for most areas. Counties north of St. Louis including Montgomery, Lincoln and Pike are expecting a total of one to three inches of snow, with a gusty wind up to 30 miles per hour.

In Illinois, Jersey, Greene, Calhoun and Macoupin counties are also expected to see one to three inches of snow.

Slippery road conditions are expected Tuesday evening and into the morning on Wednesday as the temperatures drop below freezing.

Snow will wrap up Wednesday afternoon. Then, strong winds move in. An inch of snow or less is expected in the metro area Tuesday night and then another inch or less early Wednesday from Warren, St. Charles, St. Louis and Madison County, Illinois. A few areas could see a total of up to 2 inches of snow on grassy areas.  

Low temperatures Tuesday evening will be near 30. High temperatures should climb into the mid 30s on Wednesday.
