JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. — An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed in Festus Saturday morning.
At around 8:35 a.m., officers were called to a home in the 1700 block of Burley Road for a report of a gun being fired. When they arrived, they found a 73-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police took the man's 42-year-old son, who lived at the home, into custody following the shooting.
Officials aren't releasing the victim's name until a next of kin is notified and the suspect's name is being withheld while criminal charges are pending.
