4-year-old girl shot in back in north St. Louis

Police said they first heard about the shooting when the girl arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the back

ST. LOUIS — A 4-year-old girl is expected to survive after being shot in the back Tuesday evening.

Police said they were told the shooting happened around 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of Goodfellow Boulevard and Natural Bridge Avenue in north St. Louis' Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood. 

According to the police report, the 4-year-old girl was in a car with a 31-year-old, 36-year-old, 8-year-old and a 13-year-old when an unknown car started to shoot at them. After realizing the girl had been struck, they drove straight to the hospital, police said.

Police said they were first alerted to the shooting when the girl arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.

The girl has stable vital signs and is expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing.
