Suspect charged after several shots fired on MetroBus at Forest Park station

Police said no one was injured.

ST. LOUIS — A man has been charged after shots were fired during a struggle over a gun on a MetroBus at the Forest Park station on Wednesday night.

No one was injured.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the station at Forest Park Parkway and DeBaliviere Avenue at about 8:24 p.m.

According to police, 18-year-old Byron Patton had approached another passenger on the bus, started a physical altercation and pulled out a gun. The two struggled over the gun, police said, and bullets struck the floor and side walls.

The bus' ventilation system received damage that will cost more than $750 to fix.

Patton is charged with first-degree property damage and violation of rules and regulations of a rapid transit car, bus or other conveyance.

MetroLink spokesperson Patti Beck said trains are bypassing the station while police investigate.
