Suspect charged in Spanish Lake homicide turns self in

The charges were issued on Friday and Hatchet turned himself in on Saturday. He is being held with no bond.

Charges have been issued after a man was shot and killed in Spanish Lake Wednesday morning.

On Saturday the St. Louis County Police Department announced charges against Caran Hatchet, 26, of St. Louis.

Hatchet is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. 

Police said Hatched shot 33-year-old Daniel Smith multiple times. Police responded at around 5:20 a.m. and found Smith in the parking lot of an apartment complex. He was rushed to the hospital and later died.

The charges were issued on Friday and Hatchet turned himself in on Saturday. He is being held with no bond.

The St. Louis County Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Bureau continues to investigate.
