ST. LOUIS — A series of powerful storms will move across the U.S. Thanksgiving week with severe weather, powerful winds and in the cold air, heavy snow.
St. Louis is on the warm side of the active weather for the first wave of showers and storms. Scattered showers will develop early on Tuesday and continue into the afternoon. As the winds increase later in the day, the chance of thunderstorms will also increase.
A few scattered strong to severe storms are expected to develop across Missouri into Illinois during the evening.
The storms will be racing northeast at 50 mph or more and will likely have strong winds within them.

Some of the storms may have rotation adding isolated tornadoes to the threats from these storms. As the cold front passes by midnight, winds will continue to whip across the area as the intense storm system moves into the Great Lakes region. Snow from the system will spread from Denver to Minneapolis Tuesday and get whipped around by the winds.
Widespread wind gusts of 40-60 mph are expected late Tuesday night into the first part of Wednesday. A wind advisory is in effect for Wednesday in the St. Louis area with areas to the north and west under a high wind warning starting late tonight.
Scattered power outages are possible with the strong winds overnight. The winds will diminish later Wednesday afternoon.
Much cooler air will spread into the area Wednesday and Thanksgiving looks chilly in St. Louis. Several waves of showers and rain will spread across the area from Thursday through Saturday night. Rain chances will decease on Sunday.
