EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — A student was taken into custody Thursday morning after he allegedly told several other students he would bring a gun to Edwardsville High School.
The Edwardsville Police Department said that classmates notified the school resource officer of the threat.
The school's superintendent said the resource officer and administrators immediately identified and located the student. The student did not have a gun and no gun was found on school property.
Police said that the student is in custody and has been charged with disorderly conduct.
A Snapchat was also sent out from a student witness telling others what the student had said, and the superintendent said the school is working to identify those students.
Earlier this week, the school said it was looking into a ‘racially insensitive and inappropriate social media post’ that spread throughout the high school community.
Superintendent Jason Henderson said the two incidents are not related.
