ST. LOUIS — A man is in custody after a police chase in north St. Louis Wednesday afternoon.

While officers were on patrol in the Mark Twain Neighborhood, they saw a dark gray Honda Accord that had previously fled from them on several occasions. The officers were in uniform and marked patrol cars. When they tried to stop the man, he sped away from the scene.

Officers used a tire deflation device at Kingshighway and Lillian to stop the man’s car. After striking the tire-deflation device, the man still refused to stop. He eventually left the car and then fled into an alley in the 4600 block of Anderson.

After officers confronted the man in the alley, they saw he had an AR15-style pistol. An officer with 10 years of experience fired one shot at him and then he started to run at the officers with the weapon, according to police. The man was not hit when the officer fired his weapon. He dropped his weapon and ran again. They eventually got him, but he still continued to resist and that’s when an officer used his stun-gun.

The man was transported to a hospital where he was treated and released into police custody. An assisting officer was sustained injuries to his hands and knee during the incident.

The man’s firearm, a fully loaded Matrix AR15-15 5.56/.223 semi-automatic pistol and a large amount of various suspected narcotics were recovered.

Police said the car the man was in was reported stolen from St. Louis County on Oct. 16.
