12-year-old girl struck by St. Louis County officer in north St. Louis, taken to hospital with 'very serious' injuries

Police said the girl was rushed to the hospital with very serious injuries.

ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis County police officer driving a squad car struck a 12-year-old girl in an incident that a spokesperson from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said "started in the county and came into the city."

A spokesperson from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the girl was struck near the intersection of Halls Ferry Road and Hornsby Avenue at around 5:50 p.m. Monday. Police said the officer was driving a squad car, but did not say if the officer was chasing someone.

Police said the girl was rushed to the hospital with very serious injuries.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department did not provide more information about the incident but said their accident reconstruction team is working with the St. Louis County Police Department on the investigation.

Editor's note: Police originally said the girl was 14 years old, but on Tuesday the police report listed the girl as 12 years old.
