ST. LOUIS — Two men died when the car they were in crashed into the back of a tractor trailer on Interstate 55/Interstate 44 near downtown St. Louis.
The crash was reported at 2:28 p.m. near the S. 7th Street exit.
A 47-year-old tractor trailer driver told police investigators traffic going northbound started to slow down and eventually came to a stop due to lane closures in an construction zone.
The driver said he turned on his hazard lights to warn other drivers of the slow down as he came to a stop.
Once he was stopped on the interstate, the man said a car crashed into the back of the big rig.
Two men in a Volkswagen CC were inside the car. They died at the scene. Police have not identified the two victims.
The accident reconstruction team responded to the scene and is handling the investigation. Police have not said what led to the crash.
