Severe storms possible Thursday

Thunderstorms will impact parts of the bi-state starting Thursday morning, and could possibly re-develop by late afternoon.

UPDATE: A couple showers will pass through the bi-state in the morning hours. A mixture of sun and clouds with another threat for thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight. Storms for the later part of Thursday into Thursday night could become severe, with a “SLIGHT” risk for damaging winds and large hail according to the storm prediction center. There could even be isolated tornadoes in the area. Best rain chance comes late afternoon, tonight, and the early hours on Friday. There is just an isolated shower chance into Friday afternoon. It’s humid tonight and Friday, with hotter 90s for tomorrow. A cold front knocks back our temperatures into the 80s with dry skies for the weekend. Humidity will be low this weekend too!

ST. LOUIS - While the temperatures are held at bay near our seasonal average through next week, we will have a few chances for thunderstorms Thursday and Friday.

An approaching warm front will drive in more instability to the region on Thursday, triggering scattered thunderstorms Thursday morning into midday. Some of those storms could be strong with heavy downpours and gusty winds. There will be a higher risk of a few severe storms later into Thursday afternoon and evening if the atmosphere can recover from the morning round.

The entire bi-state is in a marginal risk for severe weather, issued by the Storm Prediction Center.

Afternoon storms will be a little more scattered, and will bring the potential of damaging winds up to 60 mph, hail up to 1" in diameter, and an isolated tornado. Any tornado risk will likely be north of St. Louis on Thursday.

An approaching cold front will act as a trigger for more scattered storms early Friday into the afternoon. The best chance for severe weather Friday will be east of St. Louis across parts of central and southwest Illinois. The Storm Prediction Center has these areas in a marginal to slight risk for severe weather.
