St. Charles firefighter suffers burns after car explosion

The firefighter suffered second-and-third degree burns to his hands, in addition to flash burn injuries on his face.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — A firefighter with the St. Charles City was injured after a car explosion earlier this week.

Wednesday, the firefighter responded to a car fire near the intersection of Highways J and H in unincorporated St. Charles County. While putting the fire out, an explosion occurred and one of the doors blew 60 feet, according to an initial report.

The firefighter suffered second-and-third degree burns to his hands, in addition to flash burn injuries on his face. He was not struck by the door. No other injuries were reported.

The firefighter was kept overnight at the hospital for observation.

The St. Charles City Fire Department, Orchard Farm Fire Department, and Rivers Pointe Fire Department are investigating the incident.
