Former police chief's mother sentenced for fraud

According to court documents, 71-year-old Carol J. Dotson embezzled more than $2 million from a commercial real estate property management company where she worked as an office administrator.

OLIVETTE, Mo. — Police have sentenced the mother of former St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson to three years in prison for embezzling more than $2 million.

According to court documents, 71-year-old Carol J. Dotson embezzled more than $2 million from a commercial real estate property management company where she worked as an office administrator.

Charging documents said between 2003 and 2017 she wrote multiple checks to herself and withdrew large sums of cash to spend on elder care for her mother, mortgage payments, home renovations and other services.

She pleaded guilty to one count of felony wire fraud in U.S. District Court. She was sentenced to 36 months and was ordered to pay $2,043,248 in restitution.
