ST. LOUIS – Former St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Sam Dotson has a new job protecting fans at a Major League Baseball stadium.

Sam Dotson confirmed to 5 On Your Side that he was named head of security for the Washington Nationals.

Dotson served as the police chief from December 2012 to April 2017. He retired on Mayor Lyda Krewson's first day in office but remained with the department as a consultant and received his full $129,000 salary.

In October of 2016, Dotson announced he was running for mayor. At that time, several members of the Board of Aldermen called for Dotson to resign.

In January, he was named a finalist for the Topeka, Kansas, police chief, but was not chosen.
